Friday 24th July was a fun day for all members with a Hi Lo competition. 24 players were paired up with someone with handicap opposite to theirs; high with low. Everyone throughly enjoyed the games as well as the lunch and wine provided by the club. Very grateful to have such a great bunch of members who not only play croquet but help with running of social days at the club.
On a rainy, cold morning members were surprised by a visitor who brazenly walked up the path to the clubhouse. They did eventually scampered off into the garden. Perhaps we don’t have rabbits because they regularly visit our site!
At our Annual General Meeting we had the privilege of awarding a 20 year pin to Elizabeth Liphuyzen. You have to get up early to beat her on the court has her prowess playing is not slowing down. It is always a pleasure to have members earn an accolade and be such great members at the club.
The landscaping work is underway with new treated pine sleepers being laid against the garden edges. These sleepers will not be moved very easily! Each is held in with 2 star pickets and a joint plate screwed between each one. Any ball hit off court should come rolling back!
This summer we are holding social play at twilight on every 2nd Wednesday. From 5:30pm we will play games and then enjoy our BYO supper/drink. Starting this week on Wednesday 7th January we hope to see as many of you as possible to share more fun times together.
At our Christmas party in December, we were able to give Tony, our resident raconteur, his 10 year badge. This was much delayed and was due a while ago. But ever the easy going chap that he is, Tony was not fussed and happy to have it now.
The club honours those members who have kept their membership and regular playing for more than 10 years. We have awarded another 10 year pin, this time to John Sherlock.
On Saturday 13th September we hosted a Novice GC Handicap (9-14) Doubles Tournament which was attended by players from other clubs as well as our members. It was a great day of competition with everyone enjoying the experience. The winners were 2 MCC players, Jan Harris and Phillip Harncorne.
We had a very successful day at Bunnings Mornington on Saturday 6th September running the BBQ. With a full roster of volunteers and steady to heavy stream of customers we come very close to selling out of all the sausages. The Treasurer is very happy with the financial bonus to our bank account. This was the first ‘outing’ for our new club aprons and helped to promote the club.
This event was held at Cairnlea over the weekend of the 3nd & 4th of August. 11 Women and 24 men competed in the 2 events in very pleasant weather- brisk mornings with clear sunny days and no wind. The women competed in a Round Robin event. Our club was represented by Janine Sisson, who won 8 of her 10 games and secured the Runner Up position. We are very proud of her work and skill, and representing our club so grandly!
